Actor-director Ricky Rivero dies
RICKY RIVERO – The veteran actor-director passed away at the age of 51.
His death was confirmed by his sister Beverly Salvador-Quintela who wrote: “He passed away at 2:25 this morning.” Ricky had been dealing with various illnesses, primarily related to his weight gain. He had also suffered a stroke in May and was diabetic. However, no official cause of death had been disclosed yet.
He first appeared in the film “Ninja Kids,” an action comedy produced by Viva. He also joined Kuya Germs’ (German Moreno) “That’s Entertainment.” However, his popularity didn’t soar much during that time, as it seemed acting didn’t interest him much. As it turned out, he preferred working behind the camera.
He went through various roles behind the scenes, working as a production manager, location director, and more until he finally got a break as a television director. He was one of the directors of ABS-CBN teleseryes “Mula sa Puso” in 2012, “Eva Fonda” and “Forevermore.” Unfortunately, his career hit a setback when ABS-CBN lost its franchise.
Ricky managed to survive several life-threatening incidents. In 2011, he made headlines after he was involved in a stabbing incident in his own home. He was stabbed 17 times but able to survive by driving himself to a hospital.
Prior to his death, his social media account has been sharing some snaps of him in the hospital, unable to walk and with impaired vision. It appeared to be an indication of the severity of his diabetes. However, that was some time ago, so it is believed he had recovered since then.
