Tony Bennett, a legendary singer, died at the age of 96

TONY BENNETT – The legendary American singer passed away on Friday, July 21, 2023, at the age of 96.

His death was confirmed by his publicist, Sylvia Weiner. He is survived by his four children, namely Danny, Dae, Joanna, and Antonia. Bennett, whose real name is Anthony Dominick Benedetto, was born on August 3, 1926. He started singing at the age of 10. His first hit song titled “Because of You” was released in 1951.

Among the songs he popularized were the following: “Stranger in Paradise,” “Rags to Riches,” “Who Can I Turn To,” “The Way You Look Tonight,” as well as his 1962 signature song, “I Left My Heart in San Francisco.” When he was active in the world of singing, he was able to produce seventy albums. Among the numerous accolades received by Bennett as a singer are twenty Grammy Awards, a Lifetime Achievement Award, and two Primetime Emmy Awards.

It was in 2016 when Tony Bennett was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. “Life is a gift—even with Alzheimer’s,” he tweeted at the time. Despite his condition, he still memorized the lyrics of his songs.

He and singer Lady Gaga also produced albums, “Cheek to Cheek,” which became the number one US record in 2014, and “Love For Sale” in 2021. Their concert at Radio City Music Hall in New York last August 2021 was the last performance of Bennett before retiring from the music industry after seven decades.

Meanwhile, the entire world mourns the passing of Bennett, who made significant contributions to the music industry.
