Here’s the reaction of Janno Gibbs to the issue of Lea Salonga
JANNO GIBBS – The singer/actor reacted to the issue involving Lea Salonga and Filipino fans backstage on Broadway.
The singer made rounds online following a video of her declining some fans’ request to take a backstage photo with her. The video, shared by Facebook user Cristopher Retokelly Carpila, captured fans waiting outside Salonga’s dressing room after a Broadway performance of “Here Lies Love.”
In the video, Salonga politely explained to the fans that she couldn’t allow them into her dressing room if they weren’t on the guest list due to security concerns. She elaborated that granting their request could open the door for others to take advantage of the situation.
Carpila expressed his disappointment with the incident on Facebook, hoping that as fellow Filipinos and fans, they would be given at least a little respect and allowed to take a picture, even if it meant not being able to hug or beso Salonga. The Facebook clip has garnered over 1.7 million views and generated mixed reactions among netizens. Lea has already made a clarification regarding the video.
Among those who reacted to the issues is singer-actor Janno Gibbs. On his Instagram Stories, he shared his thoughts on the viral video and Lea’s tweet about boundaries. He acknowledged that Ms. Lea was in the right, as it is indeed not allowed for people who are not on the guest list to be in the dressing room or backstage area.
However, Janno also expressed his frank sentiment regarding how Lea handled the situation with the fans. He wished that she could have communicated her message in a more respectful manner, so as not to embarrass the fans. He emphasized that it was his personal opinion on the matter.
“Nasa tama naman si Ms. Lea. Bawal talaga sa dressing room/backstage ang wala sa listahan,” he said. “Sana lang nasabi niya ng mas maayos. Yung hindi mapapahiya ung fans. Sa akin lang naman,” he added.
