Gen Z refers to the generation of people who were born roughly between the mid-1990s and the early 2010s. They are the young people of today. Gen Z is known for being very comfortable with technology, like smartphones and the internet since they have grown up with it.
They are often open-minded, accepting of diversity, and care about important social and environmental issues. Many of them have an entrepreneurial spirit and like to be independent.
On Twitter, Khan shared her experience of interviewing a Gen Z intern who expressed a desire for work-life balance, working for five hours a day and a PHP33,000 allowance. The intern also mentioned a preference for working in a start-up rather than a multi-national corporation (MNC).
Different reactions emerged on Twitter, with some supporting the intern’s expectations and others questioning their commitment. Some argued that work-life balance is important, while others suggested that striving for more significant career opportunities might be more beneficial in the long run.
Sameera advised that while work-life balance is essential, early internships should focus on learning, growth, and good projects to understand one’s career preferences better. She also emphasized the importance of enjoying the work one does to achieve a true work-life balance.
