The grand launch of Eat Bulaga on GMA Network in 1995 goes viral again
EAT BULAGA – After the former hosts of the noontime show decided to move to TV5, many netizens took a trip down memory lane and recalled the grand launch of the long-standing noontime show on GMA Network back in 1995.
It’s worth remembering that after 28 years, Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey de Leon announced their departure from GMA Network and Television and Production Exponents Inc., the production company behind Eat Bulaga.
On social media, several netizens shared the first episode of Eat Bulaga when it was under GMA, showcasing how warmly the Kapuso Network embraced the Dabarkads. The launch took place at Araneta Coliseum and was described as a vibrant and distinctly Filipino event by some viewers.
The video features TVJ and other Eat Bulaga hosts riding a jeepney on their way to Araneta. They also performed the iconic Eat Bulaga theme song along with numerous other performers.
Netizens who watched the video couldn’t help but compare TVJ’s debut on GMA Network with their first episode on TV5. Some mentioned that GMA’s preparations for the Dabarkads were more elaborate, while TVJ’s arrival on TV5 was described as simpler.
Meanwhile, several reports indicated that TVJ initially planned to hold the launch of their newest noontime show at the Philippine Arena, a stadium three times larger than Araneta. However, for unknown reasons, TVJ decided to have their first episode in their smaller studio instead.
Eat Bulaga still airs on GMA-7 under a block time agreement with TAPE Inc. It is hosted by Paolo Contis, Isko Moreno, Buboy Villar, Betong Sumaya and to name a few. On the other hand, TVJ’s noontime show on TV5 is titled E.A.T.
