COPRAS – A man from Samboan, southwestern Cebu died on Wednesday, June 14, 203 while cooking dried coconut meat.

According to the authorities in Samboan, Luis Binag Tulabing’s relatives discovered him lifeless in front of the copras he was preparing. His head and arms were completely burnt, and severe burn wounds were also found on his stomach.

Investigators suspect that Tulabing may have experienced an epileptic seizure while cooking the copras. His family shared that he had suffered from epilepsy in the past, which likely contributed to the unfortunate incident.

According to Cebu Daily News, just two days before his passing, Tulabing had been hired by a neighbor to cook copras for a fiesta celebration. During the event, he also joined a drinking session.

The victim’s sister, Fe Tulabing, informed the police that they did not suspect foul play in her brother’s untimely demise and decided not to proceed with an autopsy. Samboan, a fifth-class municipality located approximately 147 kilometers southwest of Cebu City, was the site of this tragic event.

Meanwhile, Copra is the dried meat or kernel of a coconut. It is obtained by removing the shell and husk of a coconut and then drying the white flesh. Copra is commonly used to produce coconut oil and coconut-based products.

The dried copra is often further processed through crushing, expelling, and refining to extract the oil.
