Camille Villar pays tribute to Malanyaon

CAMILLE VILLAR – The Nacionalista Party (NP) spokesperson and House Deputy Speaker expressed her condolences on the passing of Davao Oriental Governor Corazon Torraba Nuñez Malanyaon.

Corazon Nuñez Malanyaon, was a Filipino politician, lawyer, and accountant. She was born on August 22, 1949, in Cateel, Davao Oriental, and passed away on June 28, 2023. Malanyaon had an impressive political career, serving as the representative of Davao Oriental’s 1st district from 2001 to 2007 and again from 2016 to 2022. She also held the position of governor of Davao Oriental twice, from 2007 to 2016 and from 2022 until her demise.

Malanyaon’s political journey began when she joined the opposition party PDP-Laban and actively supported Corazon Aquino during the 1986 snap election. She was appointed as an Officer in Charge (OIC) member of Davao City’s Sangguniang Panlungsod (city council) after the 1986 People Power Revolution. In the 1988 local elections, she was elected as councilor of the 3rd district and served until 1992.

Among those who paid tribute to the late governor is no less than Congresswoman Camille Villar. “Gov. Malanyaon was not only a dedicated Nacionalista but also a public servant known for her integrity, exemplary leadership, and compassion,” said Villar.

“As we grieve during this difficult time of mourning, let us also reflect on her legacy as an outstanding student, lawyer-accountant, university lecturer, and public servant who touched the lives of many throughout her remarkable careers,” added the lady solon.

Villar stated that Malanyaon demonstrated “service with a heart” in her service to her fellow countrymen.
