MMDA chair recommends Ria Atayde to become the new spokesperson
RIA ATAYDE – The actress has been recommended as the new spokesperson for the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).
Ria Atayde, whose real name is Maria Sophia Campo Atayde, is a popular actress and host. She is the daughter of veteran actress Sylvia Sanchez and businessman Art Atayde. Her acting career took off when she landed a role in ABS-CBN’s popular series Ningning, which aired in 2015. She portrayed the character of Teacher Hope, Ningning’s teacher, alongside Jana Cassandra Agoncillo, Beauty Gonzalez, and her own mother, Sylvia Sanchez.
Following her impressive performance in Ningning, Ria joined the cast of It’s Showtime during its Lenten Special week. She also made appearances in the long-running drama anthology series Maalaala Mo Kaya and Ipaglaban Mo!, showcasing her versatility as an actress.
After a brief hiatus, Ria returned to the small screen in the popular fantasy television series My Dear Heart in 2017. In 2020, Ria expanded her hosting skills as she became one of the hosts of Chika, Besh! alongside Pauleen Luna and Pokwang. The show aired on TV5 through a block time agreement, while Ria remains under contract with Star Magic, her management agency.
On Friday, May 19, MMDA Chairperson Romando Artes said that the actress has been recommended as the new spokesperson for the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority.
In a press conference, he said: “I personally recruited Miss Ria Atayde, who graciously agreed.” He added: “I submitted yung application and endorsement sa Malacanang for Miss Atayde to be the spokesperson ng (of the) MMDA.”
According to Artes, Atayde’s credentials encompassed her educational background in Communication Arts, her professional experience, and her prominent position in the entertainment industry. These attributes were seen as valuable assets that could aid in effectively spreading information.
