Nursing Student Shares Storytelling Session w/ Kids During His NSTP Subject
NSTP SUBJECT – A nursing student goes viral after sharing his storytelling session with kids during his NSTP subject.
A heartwarming photo of Huey Grey, a second-year nursing student, during a storytelling session with elementary students in Brgy. Udagri, General Santos City, has garnered thousands of reactions online.
The photo captures Huey’s genuine reaction while fulfilling his role as a teacher during an outreach program as part of their NSTP subject. Despite initial hesitations, Huey took on the task of teaching the children how to read and write, and his dedication and effort shone through in the captured moment.
Huey shared that he was assigned to teach the children in the community the basics of reading and writing. Although he initially had reservations, as he admitted not being fond of children and having limited patience with them, he accepted the responsibility wholeheartedly.
“I was tasked to teach the children there on how to read and write. So ayun since marunong naman na silang magbasa at magsulat, nag-story telling nalang ako. Noong una hesitant talaga ako kasi hindi talaga ako mahilig sa bata and kaunti lang ‘yung pasensya ko sa kanila Kaya laking gulat ko noon na doon ako in-assign. So wala naman akong choice kaya pinush ko na,” Huey said.
During the session, Huey chose to engage the children through storytelling. He recounted his experience reading the story of “Little Red Riding Hood” to the students, emphasizing the added challenge of translating the story from English to Bisaya for better comprehension.
His serious expression in the photo was a result of the immense effort he put into effectively conveying the story to the children. Despite the difficulty, Huey managed to overcome the language barrier and successfully shared the tale, hoping that the children were able to understand and enjoy it.
“Little red riding hood yung story na binabasa ko and the hard part is, in English yung story so I have to translate it to Bisaya so that the kids can further understand. […] Ayan ‘yung reason bakit naka-busangot ako sa picture kasi hirap akong i-relay sa mga bata ‘yung story. Thankfuly, nairaos ko naman, sana nga lang naintindihan ako nung mga bata HAHAHAHAHAHA,” he added.
