3-Month-Old Pony Running Along NLEX: Here’s the Story Behind

Here’s the story behind the 3-month-old pony running along NLEX

TRIXIE THE PONY – A video of a pony running along the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and racing against vehicles went viral on Friday night, May 19, 2023.

The incident caught the attention of many. Kenneth Kurt Soriano Villarica, a 23-year-old dog trainer and dog whisperer and the nephew of the pony’s owner, revealed that Trixie is only three months old.

Kenneth explained that they have been taking care of horses for decades, but this is the first time such an incident has occurred. Trixie is owned by Kenneth’s uncle, who works as a horse coachman in the city of San Fernando, also handling carriages. Kenneth himself takes care of another horse, bringing the total to three horses.

Due to Trixie’s young age, she cannot be tied up yet. This led to her escaping the stable and following her mother. Tying her up could potentially harm her. The stable where the horses are kept is located directly under the NLEX. At night, while her mother was tied up, Trixie roamed around and, unable to find grass below, climbed up to the NLEX where food and grass were available.

According to Robin Ignacio, senior manager for Traffic Operations of NLEX/SCTEX, a small breach in the fence allowed the pony to pass through and end up on the NLEX. Some netizens spotted and filmed Trixie as she ran for approximately seven kilometers before being captured by NLEX personnel. When Kenneth and others caught her in Barangay Sta. Monica, San Simon, she was sweaty, and her feet were sore from running

Following the incident, NLEX personnel promptly fixed the fence to prevent any future escapes. Concerned about Trixie’s safety, Kenneth and his family decided to tie her up to prevent a similar incident from happening again. Trixie is now in a stable, and Kenneth assured that everything is fine.
