Two hours after marrying the man he just met, a Taiwanese millionaire heir was found dead
MILLIONAIRE HEIR – An 18-year-old Taiwanese student named Lai, who recently inherited a multimillion-dollar property portfolio, died shortly after getting married to a man he had only met twice.
Lai’s body was found outside the apartment building where his husband, Hsia, lived. Lai’s mother, Chen, held a press conference alleging foul play and denying that her son was gay or had a close relationship with Hsia. Lai’s death occurred shortly after his father’s cremation, leading to suspicions.
Chen’s lawyers claimed that Hsia, an escrow assistant, took the heir out of their home on the day of the incident under the guise of handling real estate matters. During this time, they got married, and shortly afterward, Chen received the tragic news of her son’s passing. Chen vehemently rejected the idea that her son died by su*c*de, describing him as a well-behaved individual.
The family believed that Lai’s substantial inheritance of NT$500 million (PHP907.69 million) made him a target. Lai and Hsia had met only twice, one of which was after Lai’s father’s funeral, where Hsia paid his respects. Hsia reportedly had a previous connection with Lai’s father.
Hsia was questioned by prosecutors on suspicion of homicide and later released on bail. Hsia and his father were extensively questioned by investigators, but Hsia’s lawyers advised him against revealing further details.
A forensic expert, Kao Ta-cheng, conducted an examination of Lai’s body and the scene of the incident. Based on the injuries, Kao suggested that Lai’s fall from the 10th floor was unlikely, as there were no signs of internal bleeding. The possibility of poisoning before the fall was raised. The examination and autopsy of Lai’s body have been completed, and the remains have been returned to the family, pending the release of the autopsy report by the prosecutor’s office.
