Two Men Playing Badminton Along NLEX Amid Traffic Jam Goes Viral

During a traffic jam, two men played badminton along NLEX

NLEX – A video of two men playing badminton while stuck in heavy traffic on North Luzon Expressway during their commute home from a Holy Week vacation went viral.

The video was uploaded by a user named “Nays Martin Baoec” on April 9, Easter Sunday. The two men were identified as Wilfred Zamora Jr. and Arjay Fusilero. According to an interview with ABS-CBN News, they got bored inside their vehicle and decided to play badminton, as they happened to have two rackets and a shuttlecock with them.

They played for about 20 minutes, and they shared that not only did they enjoy their impromptu game, but other motorists who witnessed them also found it amusing. Instead of getting frustrated with the stagnant traffic, the attention of other drivers was diverted to the two men playing badminton.

The Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC), the company that manages NLEX, was aware of the incident. They mentioned that they should have reprimanded the two men for their unsafe behavior, but at that moment, their priority was addressing the cause of the traffic, which was a vehicular fire incident at the Candaba Viaduct.

The MPTC reminded motorists to always follow traffic rules for their own safety. Meanwhile, the video garnered various reactions and comments from netizens. One netizen commented: “There is a proper place for badminton game, napakadelikado ng ginawa nila kasi nasa NLEX ‘yan eh paano kung maaksidente sila, kalsada ‘yan di ‘yan gym, kung gusto mo magpasikat maling lugar ang choice n’yo. Mabigat man ang traffic kasi uwian so expected na ‘yon pero hindi sinabi na maglaro ka while you are in traffic be responsible to your action matanda na kayo, you know the right and wrong.”

As of now, there is no update from authorities regarding whether the two men who played badminton on NLEX violated any laws.
