Demanding girlfriend of a seafarer
“100K OR BREAK” – A 28-year-old seafarer named Rap, a native of Guimbal, Iloilo, is seeking an advice over his girlfriend who’s demanding iPhone 13, even offering an “100K or break” ultimatum.
Rap has been in a relationship with his girlfriend for 7 years, and he values being financially responsible due to growing up in poverty. Despite being labeled as “kuripot” by some, Rap doesn’t mind, as long as he knows he’s trying to become responsible.
Every month, Rap sends money to his family – 60k to his parents and 40k to his girlfriend. Both sides are aware of their plans, especially their wedding in the future. However, things took a disappointing turn when Rap’s girlfriend expressed her desire for an iPhone13 and requested that Rap buy it for her as a romantic gesture.
Rap was taken aback by her request, as he had been saving up for their wedding and suggested that she use the money he sends her every month to buy the phone herself. But his girlfriend insisted that she wanted Rap to buy it for her as a gesture of love. This made Rap feel disappointed, as he felt that their focus should be on preparing for their upcoming wedding, rather than spending money on material things.
One time, his girlfriend again mentioned the iPhone13. The seafarer told her to wait until December when he would have enough money to buy it for her. But she was angry with him for being “kuripot” and not immediately buying the phone. She even offered him an ultimatum – give her 100k or they would break up.
Rap loves his girlfriend and doesn’t want their relationship to end over money, but he also knows that he doesn’t have the means to immediately give her the 100k. He wants to use his money wisely for their future, but his girlfriend seems to prioritize material possessions over their relationship. This has caused Rap a lot of stress, as he struggles to find a balance between love and money.
