Details about the 4.8 Magnitude Earthquake in Surigao del Norte
EARTHQUAKE – A 4.8 magnitude quake recently jolted General Luna in Surigao del Norte today, Saturday, April 22, 2023.
Earthquakes are among the natural incidents that can hardly be predicted accurately. A lot of experts in different countries have the same ground when it comes to it thus what most nations do is on the preparations when it happens.
In the Philippines, earthquake drills are usually done in schools and companies or offices located in sky-rise buildings. The people are taught what to do in case there is a shaking to mitigate the damage and risks that the tremor can cause.
In PH, the government institution that monitors quake incidents in the country is the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology or more commonly called Phivolcs. It releases bulletins everytime there is a quake incident.
Recently, Phivolcs released a bulletin stating that a 4.8 magnitude earthquake jolted General Luna in Surigao del Norte today, Saturday, April 22, 2023. It specifically hit 09.71°North, 126.26°East – 014 km South 53° East of General Luna today.
The earthquake that struck Surigao del Norte today had a depth of 015 kilometers. It was tectonic in origin. According to the quake-recording agency, there are no aftershocks expected from the quake as well as damages caused by the quake.
