6.8 Magnitude Earthquake Jolts Tajikistan, USGS Releases Details
EARTHQUAKE – A 6.8 magnitude quake hit parts of Tajikistan near Xinjiang, a far western region in China, as per the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
Earthquakes are among the natural incidents that can hardly be predicted. Experts from different countries across the globe agree that the world can only do so much preparations in case it happens but quakes cannot be precisely forecasted. Thus, nations focus on the preparations and the moves to lessen the possible impacts of strong quakes.
Every country has a designated body that monitors quakes and releases advisory to the people. Most especially in institutions with tall buildings, quake drills are conducted so the people know what to do in case it happens.
A few weeks ago, Turkey and Survey were hit by at least two (2) strong quakes with magnitudes of 7.8 and 6.4. The 7.8 magnitude quake brought several structures and households down and at least 43,000 people died due to the quake.
Recently, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) recorded another strong earthquake which hit Tajikistan.
Based on a report on AP, the 6.8 magnitude earthquake rocked a part of Tajikistan which is near the Xinjiang, a far western region in China. The quake was located 67 kilometers west of Murghob.
According to USGS, the 7.8 magnitude quake that jolted Tajikistan today, Thursday, had a depth of 20 kilometers. As of this writing, there are no other details available.
