BSP on 150-Piso banknote: “Images of the said banknote circulating on social media are fictitious”

BSP – The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas said that images of the 150-Piso banknote circulating on social media are fictitious.

The central bank released an advisory about the fake 150-Piso banknote circulating in social media.

On Thursday, the BSP said in an advisory that the central bank has not issued a new banknote in the denomination of 150-Piso. The central bank also warned the public of reports about the said banknote.

In addition, the central bank is encouraging the public to report those involved in the manufacture and distribution of counterfeit currency to the BSP Payments and Currency Investigation Group through telephone numbers +63-2-8926-5092 and +63-2-8988-4833 or at email address pcig@bsp.gov.ph.

There are only 5 banknotes in circulation – 50-Piso, 100-Piso, 200-Piso, 500-Piso, and 1000-Piso. The polymer version of the 1000-Piso banknote is also in circulation since April 2022.

According to a report, the central bank has been aggressively going after perpetrators of counterfeit banknote production since 2020.

The central bank has been working with both the Senate and the House of Representatives to impose a more rigid package of sanctions and penalties against currency counterfeiting and to also criminalize the stockpiling of large amounts of coins.
