A KFC branch in Pasig was shutdown by the LGU
VICO SOTTO – The mayor of Pasig City announced that their local government unit has shutdown a branch of fast-food restaurant KFC in the city.
KFC or Kentucky Fried Chicken is an American fast food restaurant chain based in Louisville, Kentucky that specializes in fried chicken. It is the world’s second-largest restaurant chain after McDonald’s. It is owned by Yum! Brands, a restaurant company that also owns the Pizza Hut and Taco Bell chains.
The fast-food restaurant chain was founded by Colonel Harland Sanders an entrepreneur who began selling fried chicken from his roadside restaurant in Corbin, Kentucky, during the Great Depression. As of 2022, there are at least 25,000 KFC outlets worldwide. In the Philippines, there are 332 outlets recorded.
Apparently, one of its branches in the country, particularly in Pasig City was shutdown due to some violations. Mayor Vico Sotto claimed that the fast-food chain disposes wastewater in the creek that goes along with “sebo.”
According to him, the establishment is also lacking of environmental permit to operate. But the city mayor said that once the KFC branch secured necessary permits and documents, it may resume its operation.
“Pinasara ng LGU ang KFC Kapasigan kanina. Grabe yung kapal ng sebo, waste water nila diretso sa Parian Creek. Wala ring Environmental Permit to Operate. Maaari silang magbukas ulit kapag may EPO na. I love KFC, but I share this as a warning to other establishments,” he noted in a post.
KFC has yet to issue any statement regarding the shutdown of its branch in Pasig City. Netizens gave varried reactions on the matter. Here are the comments of some netizens:
