The DOH has issued an advisory reminding the public to be responsible devotees as regular festivities for the feast of the Black Nazarene commence this year.

Also, the agency urged devotees to only attend the different activities if they’re vaccinated and boosted against the coronavirus disease amidst the ongoing threat of the COVID-19 virus.

The health department encouraged the vulnerable groups — senior citizens, pregnant women, and immunocompromised individuals — to show their devotion at their respective homes.

The DOH reiterates the need to self-assess our risks as this will not only protect ourselves but as well as our loved ones and the community we belong in,” the health department said in a statement. “In case you are experiencing flu-like symptoms, such as fever, sore throat, colds, and coughing, it’s best to stay at home and quarantine to be safe.

In addition, the agency urged the public to celebrate through “localized” and online gatherings in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus disease. The health department added that devotees should also bring extra face masks, extra pair of clothes and towels, umbrella, and sanitary kits.

According to a report, several devotees started to go to the Quirino Grandstand in order to participate in the viewing and touching of the image of the Black Nazarene or the “Pagpupugay”. The said event will run until the actual feast on Monday, January 9.

Also, a procession called “Walk of Faith” is set to be conducted in the early hours of Sunday, January 8.

Be attentive of your surroundings and belongings to help prevent malicious activity as well as to help mitigate transmission of the virus,” the DOH said. “Continue to employ our layers of protection, which are known to be effective not only for Covid-19 but for other transmissible diseases as well.
