Boy started out in show business as a stage actor and eventually as an assistant stage manager. It was during his public relations work in GMA7 when one of its executives, Bobby Barreiro, suggested that he should try hosting a television show.

Later, in 1999, he relocated to ABS-CBN, a rival to GMA Network, where he has since hosted the programs The Buzz, Private Conversations, Homeboy, Kontrobersyal, SNN: Showbiz News Ngayon, and the talk show interview The Bottomline with Boy Abunda.

Recently, the King of Talk has returned to his former home network after signing a contract with GMA-7. Lilybeth Gomez-Rasonable, senior vice president for entertainment, Janine Nacar, consultant for GMA Entertainment Group Bang Arespacochaga, Darling Bodegon, first vice president for GMA Entertainment Group, and Oli Amoroso, first vice president and head of GMA Regional TV and Synergy were among the GMA executives present at the event.

While GMA Network Chairman and CEO Atty. Felipe Gozon, GMA Network President and COO Gilberto Duavit Jr., and Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Felipe Yalong sent their messages of congratulations to Boy via Zoom.

Boy stated in an interview last November that GMA was the place where he began his career, saying “parati kong sinasabi na doon ako natutong maglakad.” Rumors about Boy’s comeback to GMA started to circulate once more when the Kapuso Network posted teasers about a showbiz legend having a homecoming.
