Road accident in Negros Occidental
ROAD ACCIDENT – At least three passengers died after a public utility jeepney (PUJ) lost its brakes and crashed into a tree on Friday afternoon in the town of Calatrava, Negros Occidental.
A traffic accident is defined as an accident involving at least one vehicle on a public road that results in at least one person being injured or killed.
Every year, approximately 1.3 million people’s lives are cut short as a result of a traffic accident. Non-fatal injuries affect between 20 and 50 million more people, with many becoming disabled as a result of their injuries.
Recently, three died in a road accident in Negros Occidental. Based on the investigation by the Calatrava Police, the jeepney was traveling towards a slope and curve portion of the road along Barangay Malatas when the driver suddenly lost control of the vehicle.
The jeep not only crashed into a gemilina tree but also hit the store and two motorcycles parked on the roadside. Because of the collision, three female passengers died aged 32, 63, and 72. The other 36 passengers who accumulated injuries were immediately brought to the hospital.
According to Maj. Lumyaen Lidawan, chief of the Calatrava Police, the cause of the accident is a mechanical problem after the jeepney lost its break. But the police found out that the jeepney was carrying more than the required number of passengers.
“Overloaded talaga ang jeep, tapos out of line pa,” Lidawan said. He noted that the jeep took a route that was not part of its franchise. The 53-year-old driver is now in police custody.
