FROM MILLIONAIRE to SAUSAGE SELLER – A Chinese businessman who had gone bankrupt decided to sell grilled sausage to pay off his debt worth US$6.4 million or approximately PHP364.96 million.

Tang Jian, 52, a native of Zhejiang Province in China was once a successful businessman. At the age of 36, he established a number of restaurants.

But in 2005, he ventured into the landscape engineering industry. Apparently, that line of business made some twist in his life. Eventually, he found himself in huge debt, prompting him to sell his restaurants, houses, and cars.

Instead of giving up, Tang continued and this time he was selling grilled sausage at a stall in the eastern Chinese city of Hangzhou. In an interview with, Qianjiang Evening News he said their product (sausage) is “genuinely filled with meat, and there is no starch in it.” He added: “When compared with those sold in amusement parks or markets, ours will make you feel safer.”

He admitted that he had no idea how long or how many sausages he would have to sell to pay off his debt. But he stressed that he will not run away from it. He’s hoping that he could someday pay off his debt.

He also understands why the public is interested in his story, and why he went viral, given his background as a former millionaire. Many got inspired by his story and lot praised his determination and positive outlook in life. He also encouraged those who lost their job to be strong by saying: “We are born with nothing. Why be scared of starting all over again?”

  1. i wish to motivate people that while we failed we can still recover..can you make a story of me..i had a harware.it goes bankrupt but a daughter cause its downfall..i am facing almost 5m unpaid debts but wish someday i can pay it through hardwork and perseverance..
