Atty. Glendale L. Benzon, Tejada’s legal representative, explained what caused the politician’s death.

According to her, the Narvacan vice mayor was involved in a motorcycle accident at Brgy. Langlangca 2nd, Candon City Ilocos Sur.

Tejada was riding a 900cc motorcycle from north to south when he accidentally hit a crossing pedestrian, a 75-year-old resident of Langlangca, Candon City.

The pedestrian who was taken to Candon General Hospital was declared Dead On Arrival (DOA).

Vice Mayor Joseph Tejada was reportedly in shock and visibly distressed about the pedestrian’s condition when he surrendered to Candon City Police Station.

As a result of his overwhelming emotions, he had difficulty breathing and collapsed at the police station.

PNP officers rushed Tejada to St. Martin de Porres Hospital for treatment. Despite resuscitation attempts, he did not survive.

Joseph Tejada passed away due to Cardiac Arrest secondary to Cardiac Arrythmia.

Meanwhile, the provincial government of Ilocos Sur first announced his death on its official Facebook page.

“Today, our province lost one of the most dedicated and sincere public servants,” the provincial government said.

Former Ilocos Sur governor and ex-Narvacan mayor Luis Chavit Singson paid tribute to Joseph Tejada, whom he described as a patient and hardworking public servant.

Aside from being a public servant, Tejada was an engineer as well.

Netizens pour sympathy to the bereaved family of Tejada.
