Bayan Muna Defends Senator Loren Legarda Amid Red-Tagging Over Her Statement On CPP-NPA-NDF

Bayan Muna: “Kaya ang ating panawagan ibalik ang peace talks at itigil na ang red tagging!”

BAYAN MUNA — The progressive party list defended Senator Loren Legarda when the latter was red-tagged by “anti-democratic and fascists forces”.

To recall, Senator Legarda contested Senator Francis Tolentino’s suggestion that government officials should divulge any family members who may be part of armed groups.

Senator Legarda also said that she had worked with the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) and explained the importance of peace talks with rebels.

“I have worked with the NDF and I’m not ashamed of it,” the senator said. “I agreed with them on many subject matters that are close to our hearts.”

Pastor Apollo Quiboloy and Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa recently reacted to Senator Legarda’s statement about the CPP-NPA-NDF.

With this, Bayan Muna said that it strongly supported the senator’s call for the resumption of the peace negotiations between the Philippine government and NDFP “to find a political solution to the more than five-decade old armed conflict in the country”.

In a statement, the party list reiterated the importance of resuming peace talks but was disappointed by the online attacks Senator Legarda faced.

Bayan Muna executive vice-president Carlos Isagani Zarate said that the senator was attacked by “trolls” and was red-tagged by “anti-democratic and fascist forces”.

“Kung tutuusin mas may maraming naiambag na sa kanyang paglilingkod sa bayan at sa pagsusulong ng hustisya at kapayapaan si Sen. Loren kumpara sa mga pasistang trolls na ito,” Zarate said. “Kaya ang ating panawagan ibalik ang peace talks at itigil na ang red tagging!“
