On Monday, the Office of the President said that the period of national mourning will be effective 10 days from the official announcement of FVR’s death.

Now, therefore, I, Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by the Constitution and existing laws, do hereby declare 31 July 2022 to 09 August 2022 as a Period of National Mourning over the passing of former President Fidel V. Ramos,Proclamation No. 33 reads.

Chapter 1 Section 23 of the Republic Act No. 8491 (Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines) stated that the Philippine flag “shall be flown at half-mast” as a sign of mourning on all places and buildings where the flag is displayed.

On Sunday, the President offered his condolences to FVR’s family and also called on Filipino people to pray for FVR’s eternal repose.

Senators also mourned the death of former President Ramos, who they remembered him as a “great leader” and “an inspiration” who “served the country well”.

Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr., the co-chairman of the Lakas–Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas–CMD), confirmed that the former President died on Sunday at the age of 94. According to the senator, it was FVR who convinced him to join public service by inviting him to Lakas–CMD party.

Former Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III reminisced about being elected at the same time as the former President in 1992. The former Senate President also said that he himself was a witness to how FVR did his best to unify the Philippines.

Senator Grace Poe called FVR a “democracy icon” and a “steadfast leader”. She also shared that the occasions she met with FVR “left indelible lessons on being a firm and dedicated public servant”.

Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri cited FVR’s legacy of economic progress as he tagged him as one of the Philippines’ brightest leaders. He also cited FVR’s efforts in uniting Filipino people through peace processes.

Senator Nancy Binay said that the “nation lost one of its leading lights”, while Senator Lito Lapid noted that the Philippines has lost another “strong leader”.
