Here’s why Father Nosi Balase called the Philippine government, “heartless”
FATHER NOSI BALASE – A Catholic priest called the Philippine government “heartless” after 16 people including nuns were charged for allegedly providing financial support to CPP-NPA.
The Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) rebellion is the world’s longest ongoing communist insurgency and is the largest, most prominent communist conflict in the Philippines.
The history of the rebellion can be traced back to March 29, 1969, when Jose Maria Sison’s newly formed CPP entered an alliance with a small armed group led by Bernabe Buscayno.
Buscayno’s group was renamed the New People’s Army (NPA) and became the armed wing of the CPP.
On August 16, the Department of Justice (DOJ) charged 16 people including nuns for allegedly giving financial support to the communist group.
They were linked to Rural Missionaries of the Philippines (RPM).
But according to Father Ronald “Nosi” Balase, the group is just helping the poor and it’s not true that they are part of the communist group.
He also called the government “heartless” in how it treated RPM.
“In the Philippines today, when you help the poor, you will be tagged as a communist as if it is a crime to be one,” he said.
“You do not need political affiliation or religion to help, you just need a feeling heart. Unfortunately, Philippine government is heartless,” he added.
Father Nosi Balase called on the netizens to protect the nuns accused of being part of a communist group.
The Philippine government has yet to issue any statement in response to the comments of Father Nosi Balase.
