What Arnold Clavio has to say about lane splitting?
ARNOLD CLAVIO – The veteran broadcast journalist went to social media wherein he said that he’s in favor of the anti-lane splitting.
Road accident is being tagged as one of the leading causes of death in the Philippines.
In fact, in Metro Manila alone, 345 people die a day in road accidents.
Among the common causes of road accidents in the Philippines are the following; overspeeding, driving under the influence of alcohol, bad overtaking, improper turning, jaywalking and to name a few.
Lane splitting might be the cause of a road accident as well. Although it is illegal, a lot of riders tend to not violate it.
This prompted Pangasinan 5th district Representative Ramon Guico Jr. to file House Bill No. 1419 or Anti-Splitting Law of 2022 which will give penalties to riders who tend to do lane splitting.
According to Guico Jr., those who will violate the anti-lane splitting will pay P1,500 for the first offense, P3,000 for the second offense and P5,000 including revocation of license for the third offense.
The said bill earned the praises of broadcast journalist Arnold Clavio
“Kung sinumang mambabatas ang nasa likod ng House Bill 1419 o ang Anti Lane Splitting Law, nakupo ay sasambahin kita,” he said.
Arnold Clavio said that he witnessed the surge of “kamote riders” in the streets of Metro Manila.
“Pasingit-singit, dumadaan sa Bus Carousel, walang kortesiya, reckless driving at marami pang iba,” he noted.
The term ‘kamote’ rider is usually used to describe motorcycle riders who display bad riding habits on the road.
He also shared that last Thursday, he was victimized by a “kamote rider” who hit his car and escaped.
