SENATOR MIGZ ZUBIRI – Philippine Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri is formally elected as Senate President of the upper chamber.

A new administration has started its term in the Philippine government. Last June 30, President Bongbong Marcos took his oath as the 17th president of the Republic of the Philippines in an inauguration held at the Philippine National Museum. Several high-profile personalities in Philippine politics graced the event and joined the inauguration with the Marcoses.

Then, there were talks about the possibility of Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri being the next Senate President. He was the Senate Majority Floor Leader in the 18th Congress then.

There were also reports about the possibility of Sen. Cynthia Villar being the next Senate President but she clarified that she supports Sen. Zubiri to lead the Senate.

Recently, based on a report on Inquirer, the lawmakers in the upper chamber of the legislative body convened and Senator Migz Zubiri was officially elected as the Senate President.

Zubiri is one of the winning senatorial candidates in the May 2022 Elections. Before the Congress adjourned last June 4, he was elected Senate President Pro Tempore to secure the smooth transfer of leadership until a new Congress starts.

Previously, following Sen. Villar’s expression of support to him as he was eyed to be the next Senate President, Senator Migz Zubiri expressed his gratitude to Sen. Villar saying that he has always wanted to build a “super majority” in the Senate since the start. He stressed his belief that “a united Senate is a productive one”.

Other senators who filled some of the key positions in the Senate include Sen. Loren Legarda who was elected as the Senate President Pro Tempore and Sen. Joel Villanueva as the new Senate Majority Leader.
