Gatchalian is poised to head the Senate committee on ways and means in the 19th Congress.

Inquirer reported on Wednesday that the senator will be focused on taxpayers and MSMEs (micro, small, and medium enterprises) should he become the chairperson of the Senate ways and means committee.

Based on the report, Gatchalian is seeking to make sure that mechanisms are in place to report erring government officers when it comes to tax collection. Likewise, he assured the public that he wouldn’t touch any tax reforms implemented during the Duterte administration.

During his speech at a tax forum, the senator lamented the harassment, abuse, and the second-class treatment accorded to taxpayers despite their contribution to nation-building.
