World Health Alarmed By Spread of Monkeypox in Some Countries

World Health Speaks on Monkeypox Disease in at least 30 Countries

WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION – WHO was alarmed by the spread of monkeypox disease in some countries across the globe.

Almost all countries across the globe were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. It pulled economies down, led to the closure of many companies, brought the people into financially-struggling situations, and, worst, cost millions of lives.

It was more than two (2) years ago when the World Health Organization (WHO) declared COVID-19 a pandemic. Many countries have yet to fully recover from the pandemic and there are still cases of the disease in several nations.

Meanwhile, cases have dropped and several nations started easing the restrictions. However, the World Health Organization (WHO) warned that the pandemic is not over while there are still cases somewhere.

Unfortunately, amid the ongoing fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, there is another concern that hooked international attention – the growing cases of monkeypox, a skin disease, in several countries.

Unlike the COVID-19 which appeared to be a new case when it was first recorded, monkeypox has been endemic for years in Central and West African nations. However, recently, there are cases of the said disease outside these countries.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the World Health Organization (WHO) is alarmed by the spread of monkeypox across the globe. The experts are still studying the possible cause of the spread but they are eyeing the possibility that the stopping of the smallpox vaccine’s administration is a factor.

According to World Health Technical Lead for COVID-19 Dr. Rosamund Lewis, it really sparks concern that the monkeypox cases were recorded in Europe in increasing digits. They eye the possibility of undetected transmission of the disease.

Currently, there are around 550 cases of monkeypox recorded in at least 30 countries. The Philippines’ health department has previously ordered the strengthening of the screening at all points of entry.
