Due to heat stroke, a new cadet of the PNPA passed away
RAFAEL SAKKAM – A new cadet of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) in Silang, Cavite, died on Saturday, June 18 due to heat stroke.
PNPA is a public safety school whose graduates are assigned as officers of the Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).
Established on August 26, 1977, by the virtue of Section 19, PD 1184, the academy was tasked to provide tertiary level education to Filipinos aspiring to be officers in the three bureaus of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
Apparently, a new cadet of the said academy passed away after suffering from heat stroke.
It was on June 7 when Sakkam was admitted to the Qualimed Hospital in Sta. Rosa City, Laguna after becoming unconscious during an afternoon road run.
The new PNPA cadet was confined in the intensive care unit (ICU) but on Saturday, at exactly 6:01 p.m. he succumbed to cardiac arrest.
According to his medical certificate and final diagnosis, the new PNPA cadet died due to heat stroke.
Meanwhile, PNPA said its Commandant and Tactics Group implemented “tight measures” and “suitable interventions” to ensure that all cadets are sufficiently hydrated during summer training in order to prevent similar incidents.
The PNPA Administration has provided all the needs for Sakkam from his hospitalization to burial on Sunday.
The family is requesting privacy as they mourn the passing of New Cadet Rafael Sakkam.
“We would like to reassure the public that the PNPA Administration will never cease working to establish effective yet proactive approaches to our cadets’ training and development, with top priority given to their health, safety, and well-being,” said the PNPA.
This is not the first time such an incident happened.
Three years ago, a cadet passed away after suffering from heat stroke.
