Here’s the opinion of senator-elect Alan Peter Cayetano on the P20 per kilo of rice promised by incoming President Bongbong Marcos
ALAN PETER CAYETANO – The incoming senator was wondering if it is possible for president-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to fulfill his promise of lowering the price of rice to P20 per kilo.
During the campaign period, one of the promises of Marcos Jr. was to lower the price of rice which is now at 36 to 41 pesos.
He clarified that he still has a positive view of Marcos’ promise and hopes that it will be fulfilled.
“First time ko narinig, P20 yung rice. Just like any politician, nasabi ko, posible ba yun? Anong klaseng pangako ‘yon? Diba? But if I am a true Christian, public servant, if I really believe in science then hindi pwedeng ganun pag-iisip ko,” he said in a speech.
“Dapat ang pag-iisip ko maganda ‘yung conculusion. How do we get there? If we don’t get to P20 but we get to P30, hindi ba mas maganda yun kaysa sa P40, P45, at P50,” Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano added.
Meanwhile, incoming Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) Secretary Conrado Estrella III said it is not yet possible to lower the price of rice to P20 per kilo.
Some of the challenges that the incoming administration may face in order to bring down the price of rice are the continuing surge in the price of oil and fertilizer.
Oil and gas prices continue to surge. It was on June 7 when the oil companies implemented a price increase in domestic oil products; gasoline by P2.70 per liter, P6.55 per liter for diesel, and kerosene by P2.45 per liter.
Estrella, on the other hand, believes that the next president is serious about his promise to give cheaper rice to Filipinos.
