Sara Duterte: “I would work on producing skilled learners with the mindset to realize their full potential as individuals.“
SARA DUTERTE — After agreeing to become the next Department of Education (DepEd) chief, the leading vice-presidential candidate said that she would work on producing skilled learners.
On Wednesday, leading presidential candidate Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. announced that Mayor Sara has agreed to become the next DepEd chief.
“I think I am already authorized to announce the first nominee that we will be giving to the Commission on Appointments when the time comes should I be proclaimed and that is that our incoming vice president has agreed to take the brief of Department of Education,” Bongbong said.
Following Bongbong’s announcement, Education Secretary Leonor Briones said that she and DepEd were looking forward to working for a smooth transition at the department with Mayor Sara.
Briones also said that the Department of Education would be in “able hands” under Mayor Sara.
“We will turn over the Basic Education Plan 2030, the first time that an outgoing administration will leave behind a medium-term plan. We are confident that DepEd will be in able hands and anticipate a continuity,” said Briones.
In a statement on Thursday, Mayor Sara said that she and Bongbong talked about how she could help the Philippines and it was decided that she would work on producing “skilled learners with the mindset to realize their full potential as individuals”.
According to her, the Philippines needs a “future generation of patriotic Filipinos” that advocate discipline and peace in their respective communities.

Mayor Sara also recalled that she and Bongbong Marcos talked about the Department of National Defense (DND) post before the campaign period for the 2022 elections.
She, however, sees that “people who want to see the new administration fail” will fabricate intrigues about her loyalty and the DND position to break the UniTeam.
The Davao City mayor thanked Bongbong for the latter’s confidence in her to lead the agency. She further expressed gratitude to Briones for their readiness to work for the transition of leadership of the Department of Education.
“We thank Sec. Leonor Briones and the entire DepEd organization for their readiness to work with our team for the transition of leadership after the proclamation,” Mayor Sara said. “We recognize the sincerity, hard work, and dedication of Sec. Liling in implementing education reforms under the Duterte administration.”
