INC, in its broadcast Tuesday evening, said that the decision was made after “thorough study and research”. Net 25 immediately aired a taped message from Bongbong Marcos and Sara Duterte.

Sisikapin po namin na ang tiwalang ibinigay n’yo sa aming tambalan ay magbubunga ng tunay na pagkakaisa ng mga Pilipino,” said Bongbong, sticking to a message of unity.

Speculations that the Iglesia Ni Cristo would endorse the BBM-Sara tandem started as early as February when the two held their proclamation rally at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan, the largest indoor arena in the world.

Back then, however, Bongbong’s spokesperson Atty. Vic Rodriguez said that the Philippine Arena was “just a venue”.

The Iglesia Ni Cristo endorsed the presidential bid of then Davao City mayor Rodrigo Duterte and the vice-presidential bid of Bongbong Marcos in 2016. At that time, Duterte won, while Marcos lost to Leni Robredo.
