Grace Poe: “Siguro sinasabi niya (Susan Roces) sa tatay ko, ‘O Ronnie ha tapos na ako dito…'”
GRACE POE — The daughter of late veteran actress Susan Roces looked back on her last conversation with her mother.
The senator recalled when she ran for the Presidency in an interview on “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho”.
She shared that many criticisms were then thrown her way, especially about the questions surrounding her birth. Aside from the senator, the late veteran actress was the most affected and hurt about those issues about her daughter.
When the Foundling Law was finally enacted for the benefit of abandoned children, the senator was ecstatic to tell the good news to her mother.
She also recalled that her mother congratulated her for the passage of the Foundling Law, but she credited her mother for working tirelessly to ensure that foundlings like her would be duly recognized as Filipinos.
“Sabi ko, ‘No, mom. Congratulations to you! Because of our case and because of your diligence,’ ‘yung pagiging maayos niya na siguradong dapat ‘yan nasa ayos ang mga papeles niya, nagkaroon ng basehan ang mga lehislaturang ganitong klase,” she shared.
This was her last conversation with her mother.
“Siguro sinasabi niya sa tatay ko, ‘O Ronnie ha tapos na ako dito. Hindi na apihin ang anak mo. Recognized na ‘yan at ‘yung mga ibang bata na katulad niya,’” she said.
Rappler reported that the senator considered their last conversation to be “symbolic” because it seemed that her mother waited for the passage of the Foundling Law before bidding them goodbye.
