DILG Orders LGUs, PNP To Stop Illegal Online Sabong Ops

DILG: “Dahil illegal po ito, hindi n’yo po alam kung saan napupunta ang inyong pera or kung may dayaan.”

DILG — The Department of the Interior and Local Government has ordered the local government units (LGUs) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) to stop the illegal online sabong (online cockfighting) operations in their respective areas in compliance with President Rodrigo Duterte’s directive.

DILG Undersecretary and Spokesperson Jonathan Malaya said that DILG Secretary Eduardo M. Año has directed the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group, the PNP Directorate for Operations, and all PNP units nationwide to put a stop to those illegal online sabong operations that reportedly sprouted after the President shut down the PAGCOR-licensed operators.

Año’s order came at the heels of reports that 7 online sabong outfits were operating without licenses or franchises in violation of President Duterte’s directive.

According to Malaya, a similar directive was issued to the LGUs to stop all online sabong operations in their areas of jurisdiction with the DILG also enlisting the help of the Anti-Cybercrime Division of NBI (National Bureau of Investigation) “to put a stop to these illegal activities”.

He added that those illegal online sabong outfits are operating without franchises or licenses from the national or local governments and are not remitting a single peso in revenue to the state.

Malaya asked for the public’s assistance “in putting a stop to these illegal operations”.

He also warned the public that it’s a risk to bet on those online platforms because it’s unregulated and they’re never sure if they will be paid their winnings at the end of the day.

Dahil illegal po ito, hindi n’yo po alam kung saan napupunta ang inyong pera or kung may dayaan,” Malaya warned.
