Sen. Leila de Lima should be freed according to Sharon Cuneta
SHARON CUNETA – The Megastar claimed anew that Senator Leila de Lima is “innocent.”
It was in 2017 when the senator was arrested for her alleged link on the drug trade at the New Bilibid Prison during her term as the secretary of the Department of Justice (DOJ).
She has been detained at Camp Crame for five years already.
In a sideline interview, Sharon Cuneta expressed her support to the senator who is now spending her fifth year in detention.
The actress-singer is hoping that De Lima, who is running for senator, will be freed.
During the campaign rally of presidential candidate Vice President Leni Robredo, Sharon said that De Lim was supposed to be not placed behind bars.
According to her, the senator was just trying to find the truth but end up in jail.
She also called on for De Lima’s release so that she could serve the country well.
“Senator Leila de Lima is in prison only because she was trying to find out the truth and she does not deserve to be locked up. Get her out of there! HUSTISYA!” she said.
Meanwhile, Leila Norma Eulalia Josefa Magistrado de Lima, a politician, lawyer, human rights activist, and law professor is currently serving as senator of the Philippines since 2016.
Previously, she held the positions of Chairperson of the Commission on Human Rights from May 2008 to June 2010, and as the Secretary of Justice from 2010 to 2015 under the administration of late president Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III.
In 2017, she was arrested for her alleged link on the drug trade at the New Bilibid Prison during her term as the Justice secretary.
Presently, she is running for the senate again under the slate of presidential candidate, Vice President Leni Robredo.
