LEILA DE LIMA – The convicted senatorial candidate took to the micro-blogging site, Twitter, wherein she released a statement after self-proclaimed drug lord Kerwin Espinosa retracted his claims against her.

Leila Norma Eulalia Josefa Magistrado de Lima, a politician, lawyer, human rights activist, and law professor is currently serving as senator of the Philippines since 2016.

Previously, she held the positions of Chairperson of the Commission on Human Rights from May 2008 to June 2010, and as the Secretary of Justice from 2010 to 2015 under the administration of late president Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III.

In 2017, she was arrested for her alleged link to the drug trade at the New Bilibid Prison during her term as the Justice secretary.

Presently, she is running for the senate again under the slate of presidential candidate, Vice President Leni Robredo.

But earlier, self-confessed drug lord Kerwin Espinosa recanted his claims against de Lima.

Espinosa admitted that he was only forced to testify against de Lima, who was the former secretary of the Department of Justice (DOJ).

He also apologized to de Lima.

Meanwhile, Leila de Lima took to the micro-blogging site, Twitter wherein she released her official statement after Espinosa’s retraction.

Amid the retraction of Espinosa’s claims against De Lima, the #FreeLeilaNow trended on Twitter with some netizens and supporters calling for her immediate release.

Espinosa might face perjury as Department of Justice (DOJ) mulls to file the said case.
