Pres. Duterte Speaks on Campaign Promise To End PH Drug Problem in 6 Months
DUTERTE – President Rodrigo Roa Duterte admitted that he was wrong on his campaign promise to end drugs in the Philippines in six months.
In 2016, Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte won a landslide victory. He is a former mayor of Davao City who has served his hometown for around two (2) decades. He has two (2) staunch campaign promises when he was still a candidate for the presidency.
The then Mayor of Davao City promised to address the corruption problem in the country. He also vowed to end the country’s problem with illegal drugs in six (6) months.
However, Pres. Duterte is now near the end of his term as the country’s chief executive and the country is still facing drug problems. The President previously admitted that he has probably miscalculated the extent of the drug problem in the country.
Recently, less than three (3) months before his term is over, Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte spoke about his campaign promise to end drugs in the Philippines in six months anew. According to him, it was “hubris” or excessive pride or self-confidence that made him make such promise.
Furthermore, the President expressed that it was campaign time and it was time for bragging. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, he made the statement during the inauguration of the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway in Cebu.
“Sinasabi ko I can clean it in six months. Then after that, I realized na nagkamali talaga ako… Maybe it’s hubris. It was campaign time. Payabangan naman ‘yang kampanya,” he said.
When he became President, he brought with him his chief of police in Davao City, former Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief and now Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa. He expressed that he is no longer the president in the next few months but he might find a way in case those who are involved in drugs will continue.
