Message of Archbishop Socrates Villegas for Aika Robredo
Archbishop Socrates Villegas penned an open letter for the eldest daughter of Vice President Leni Robredo, Aika Robredo, amid issues targeting her.
Disinformation is currently massive on several social media platforms. There are individuals who are using these platforms not for the purpose of connecting individuals across miles, sharing factual information, or by mere good entertainment through videos, songs, and games but as venues to spread lies and fake news.
Vice Pres. Leni Robredo is vocal about being the center of fake news for several years now. Visibly, the Vice President is resilient from the outside noise although she admitted that not speaking up against the disinformation has changed the non-factual information into what many believe as the truth. Even her daughters stress that trolls don’t bother her.
As she runs for president in the upcoming May 2022 Elections, she is also campaigning for the fight against fake news and disinformation online. Unfortunately, amid the election period, her eldest daughter Aika also became the center of malicious attacks.
A lot of people expressed support for Aika Robredo amid the fake videos that are alluded to her. One of those who reached out to the daughter of Vice Pres. Leni Robredo is Archbishop Socrates Villegas.
In an open letter posted on Facebook, Archbishop Socrates Villegas told Aika Robredo not to let herself be disturbed by the lies. He stressed that her decency, humility, service, and intelligence are known to many people and only liars will believe the lies made against her.
The Archbishop also encouraged Aika to focus on doing what is good and living by the truth. He urges her not to drop her passion for service because of what others are doing but to “match their passion for lies” with her greater fire for public service.
Archbishop Socrates Villegas expressed his confidence that he does not need to tell Aika about all of it because Vice Pres. Leni Robredo has surely taught her with her “prudent counsel and courageous example of life how to handle such defamation”. Here’s the open letter posted on Father Soc’s Facebook page:
