Manila Mayor Isko Moreno: “This is not drugs. This is two joints… Puwedeng Yorme at Ong… Chill. Don’t panic, it’s organic.”
MANILA MAYOR ISKO MORENO — The Aksyon Demokratiko standard-bearer explains on Thursday why he keeps on flashing the “two joints” hand sign.
In an ambush interview during his campaign sortie in Nagtipunan, Quirino, Moreno said that his viral “two joints” hand sign isn’t related to illegal drugs.
“Drugs are prohibited under our law. But this is not drugs — Isko, Willie [Ong]. I mean, I always wanted to relate to our constituency,” Moreno said.
Moreno also said that he’ll never tolerate the use of illegal substances. When asked if he’s in favor of legalizing the use of marijuana for medical purposes, he said that he’s not in favor because it will be “subject to abuse”.
However, he said that he would reconsider his decision “someday, somehow” if “science will prove” that medical marijuana is a more effective treatment than other medicine.
“As long as makikinabang ‘yung kalusugan ng isang tao, ano mang uri ng gamot na pwedeng makatulong sa kanya, na manuhay siya, then so be it,” Moreno said.
The Manila mayor added that he’s just trying to relate with the people and joined the trend.
According to him, one of the key successes or elements in leadership is for a leader to understand his people, adding that the leader can create policies that directly benefit them when he understands them.
Moreno also said that the viral “two joints” hand sign doesn’t pertain to anyone.

Meanwhile, Aksyon Demokratiko campaign strategist Lito Banayo said that the Manila mayor didn’t really know what the hand sign meant when he first did it during his Mindanao trip.
“We, of course, use God First as our hand sign because he has been using that even in Manila politics, but relating to younger voters is quite important, and the response to the two joints sign is quite refreshing,” Banayo said.
