Security Guard Vandalizees Artwork Worth $1-Million Dollars

RUSSIA – A security guard is currently facing charges after vandalizing an artwork worth $1 million in Russia.

The security guard working at an art gallery in Russia is facing charges for drawing an eye at an abstract painting using a ballpen. The expensive artwork was displayed at Yeltsin Centre in Yekaterinburg.

The artwork called “Three Figures” painted by Anna Leporskaya who is a student of the artist Kazimir Malevich. The vandal at the abstract has been noticed last December 2021.

The masterpiece “Three Figures” that was created in 1930 was insured with 75 rubles or worth $1 million US dollars or P50 million. The vandal has been allegedly created by an employee of a private security company.

The facility hired the guard from a private security company to secure the area, according to the acting director of Yeltsin Centre Alexander Drozdov during a meeting. The incident has been immediately reported to the insurance company and Tretyakov Gallery head in Moscow.

Tretyakov Gallery loaned the artwork for the facility. The masterpiece has been returned to Moscow after it was restored.

According to the report, the incident happened during the first day of the security guard at work. It was still unknown why the guard vandalized the artwork. Yeltsin Center denied the allegations that their employee was involved in the incident.

The center reported the incident last December 2021 but the police authorities allegedly refused due to small penalty fee of $3, 300. However, the cops launched a “vandalism” case after the Russia’s culture ministry filed a complaint.

The guard will be required to pay a penalty fee or three month imprisonment.
