A lawyer who is rooting for a council seat in Batangas was gunned down inside his office
SHOOTING INCIDENT – A lawyer who’s running for councilor in Batangas was shot dead by unidentified suspects.
The victim, identified as Atty. Reginald Michael Manito, was killed inside his office in Sto. Tomas City, Batangas by unknown assailants.
The shooting incident happened on Thursday morning, February 17.
Lolita Manito, the mother of the victim, has aired a statement following the killing of her son.
According to her, the assassination of her son is “inhuman.”
“Hindi makatao, walang puso [ang mga salarin],” she said.
Lolita described her son as a kind and helpful type of person.
She added that she does not know if her son, who’s a lawyer, has enemies.
The mother of Manito does not believe that politics is the motive behind the killing of her son. It may be connected to his work as an attorney.
“Because there are people who cannot accept defeat,” she said.
Lolita and her family are hoping for justice for the killing of her son.
Currently, authorities are investigating the shooting incident. They are trying to identify the suspects behind the killing.

Meanwhile, election-related violence is rampant in the Philippines, especially weeks or months before the poll period.
In 2019, at least 20 people were killed in 43 election-related violence that transpired in the country.
These incidents mostly involved shooting, mauling, and isolated cases of assault, stabbing, slapping, harassment, strafing, robbery, and illegal discharge of firearms.
