Alicia Reyes, former chairman of PAGCOR, dies at 88
ALICIA REYES – The former chairman and chief executive officer of the Philippine Amusement Gaming Corp. (PAGCOR) passed away on February 26.
She is 88 years old.
Pagcor announced her passing on Monday, February 28.
Reyes led Pagcor from 1986 to 2001, where she reached the administrations of Cory Aquino, Fidel Ramos and Joseph Estrada.
Under her leadership, PAGCOR rose as one of the largest revenue-generating arms of the government.
The agency also became the source of much-needed funds for the reestablishment of the Philippine economy.
Prior to becoming PAGCOR chairman, Reyes was also governor of the Development Bank of the Philippines.
Meanwhile, PAGCOR is a government-owned and controlled corporation established through the Presidential Decree 1869.
PAGCOR is the Philippines’ largest contributor of revenue to the government after the Bureau of Internal Revenue and the Bureau of Customs.
It operates under the Office of the President of the Philippines.
Andrea D. Domingo is the current chairman and CEO of the said agency.
To recall, it was just last year when former singer, songwriter Jimmy Bondoc was appointed as a member of the board of directors of the said agency.
Presently, he is a fourth-year law student at the University of the East in Manila.
Before he was given a position in the government, he made a name for himself in the music industry as singer and songwriter of hit singles such as Let Me Be The One and Hanggang Dito na Lang.
