TOKYO – Due to ice and snow on the streets, over 200 people in the capital of Japan were rushed to hospitals on Thursday and Friday after slipping and falling.

It’s still winter season in Japan.

However, not everyone loves this season. This might be due to the huge drop in the temperature especially in parts where there’s heavy snowfall.

Because of the snow and ice, residents as well are commuters are being warned of the possible danger and accidents that might happen.

On Thursday evening, Central Tokyo was covered by at least 10 centimeters of snow with a recorded temperature at -3.5 C. The following day, the traffic remain disrupted.

According to the Tokyo Fire Department, a total of 215 people aged between 9 and 97 were sent to hospitals in the capital after falling.

As of Friday morning, 77 traffic accidents resulting in injuries had occurred in Tokyo due to the snow, as per the police.

Nine (9) flights operated by All Nippon Airways departing from or arriving at Tokyo’s Haneda airport were canceled.

Aside from that, the expressway serving the greater Tokyo area was partially closed.

At one point, the snowfall left up to 100 vehicles stuck on the Tokyo Gate Bridge along the Metropolitan Expressway.

A major tourist attraction in the capital known as the Rainbow Bridge is still closed due to snowfall.

Icy roads resulted in an accident involving five (5) trucks in Kasukabe, Saitama Prefecture injuring four (4) men.

On the other hand, 346 traffic accidents happened on Friday morning because of snow and ice on the roads in Ibaraki Prefecture, northeast of Japan’s capital.
