On Friday, the central bank assured the public that the banking industry will continue to provide essential services to its clients.

This, after the government placed more areas under Alert Level 3.

The government placed Metro Manila, Cavite, Bulacan, and Rizal under Alert Level 3 from January 3-15, Laguna was placed under the same alert level starting January 7, and 14 more areas were placed under the same alert level from January 9-15.

With this, the central bank reiterated its directive to its supervised financial institutions (BSFIs) to strictly observe minimum health protocols in order to safeguard the safety and well-being of bank personnel and customers.

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas also encouraged the public to use electronic banking and digital payment services for safer and more efficient financial transactions.

Moreover, the central bank said that its key services such as PhilPaSS settlements, open market operations, and servicing of cash withdrawals remained unhampered.

The central bank added that it also continued to impose strict COVID-19 measures in all central bank offices.

The BSP committed to deliver on its mandates of promoting price and financial stability, and a safe and efficient payments and settlements system throughout the pandemic,” BSP said.

Earlier, the central bank was encouraging financial institutions and banks to make use of other sources or “alternative data” for credit scoring.
