Motorcycle taxi TWG terminated Grab Philippines – Move It partnership in pilot study.
Grab Philippines has been barred from entering the motorcycle taxi business in the country.
This, after the government’s motorcycle taxi technical working group (TWG) told the company to permanently dissolve its partnership with Move It, leaving the three original players — Angkas, Move It, and Joyride — to operate in the fast-growing segment.
Based on a report on Inquirer, the motorcycle taxi technical working group said in a December 10 letter to Move It CEO Francis Juan that its members decided to “permanently terminate” their partnership with Grab Philippines.
In addition, the motorcycle taxi technical working group said in the letter that allowing the partnership to continue will make Grab Philippines “the fourth de facto player, which is not allowed under existing conditions of the pilot study”.
The motorcycle taxi technical working group ordered the suspension of the partnership on September 30, after a week of operations.
This prompted Juan to issue a statement calling out the technical working group and its rivals for “bullying” the “smallest player in the pilot.” According to Juan, the said move was also anti-competitive.
The motorcycle taxi technical working group made references to satisfying other stakeholders in its letter.
“[A]llowing the collaboration to proceed will only rekindle the issues that were raised by the complainants and will further put the MC Taxi TWG in a very tight and compromising position from both the House of Congress and Senate, the two other players and the stakeholders.”
Despite their short collaboration, the motorcycle taxi technical working group acknowledged that Grab Philippines and Move It were successful in recruiting more drivers.

The motorcycle taxi technical working group added that the pilot study was on its “concluding stage”.
According to the motorcycle taxi technical working group, Grab Philippines may choose to enter the motorcycle taxi sector after a law legalizing the segment was passed.
The said letter was signed by retired Brig. Gen. Manuel Gonzales and retired Police Col. Joel Pernito, who sit as co-chairs of the motorcycle taxi technical working group.
