DILG Secretary Eduardo Año Under Isolation Now due to COVID-19
DILG SECRETARY EDUARDO AÑO – The head of the Department of Interior and Local Government tested positive for COVID-19 for the third time.
The Philippines is now battling another surge in the COVID-19 cases. Following the holiday season, the daily recorded cases of coronavirus jumped and urged the government to place the entire Metro Manila under the Alert Level 3.
Stricter curbs are now up in Metro Manila. The surge came along with the threat of the possible spread of the Omicron, the variant first recorded in South Africa and is currently the variant of concern across the globe.
Recently, the Department of Health (DOH) said that the Omicron is now dominating the Philippines. It holds 60% of the results of the latest whole-genome sequencing done leaving the rest to the previous variant of concern, the Delta.
Several key authorities in the national government tested positive for COVID-19. For the third time, DILG Secretary Eduardo Año tested positive for coronavirus.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Interior Secretary first tested positive COVID-19 in March 2020. In August 2015, he tested positive for coronavirus again.
Recently, DILG Secretary Eduardo Año announced that he tested positive for COVID-19 again after several of his close contacts also tested positive for the virus. According to him, he is not exhibiting any symptoms and he is currently isolated.
Año also said that he continues to work while under isolation. He expressed encouragement to the public to get vaccinated and get the booster shot as soon as possible. He also told the public to keep practicing the health protocols.
The national government recently held two (2) mass vaccination drives. More than 10 million people were jabbed in the said drive. The giving of booster shots for the healthcare workers, the senior citizens, and those individuals with co-morbidities have also started.
