The Commission on Elections issued Resolution No. 10748 that clarified certain items in Section 9c of Resolution No. 10730, which was about the use of the internet, mobile platforms, and social media for purposes of election propaganda.

COMELEC resolved to amend items in Resolution No. 10730 or the Rules and Regulations Implementing RA 9006, otherwise known as “Fair Elections Act”.

According to the poll body, each registered political party/coalition and bona fide candidate shall register with the EID the official websites, accounts, blogs, and/or social media pages of political candidates or parties/coalitions which were already verified upon registration, and also those that will be verified subsequent to registration, provided that the same were being or will be used for the endorsement of one’s candidacy (for political aspirant) or candidacies of its members (for political party/coalition).

The poll body also said that registration shall be done online via here not later than January 31, 2022.

Furthermore, the Commission on Elections said that only verified websites, accounts, blogs, and/or social media pages may run electoral ads and promote or boost electoral posts without prejudice to the existing policy of each specific platform for running electoral ads and/or promoting or boosting electoral posts.

The said resolution was approved last December 16, 2021.

Earlier, the poll body said that it would work with social media platforms Twitter and Facebook for the verification of political aspirants’ accounts. This was among the COMELEC’s steps to fight misinformation and disinformation in connection with the 2022 elections.
