Walang pinupulitika! Lawyer lauds Beatrice Gomez
BEATRICE GOMEZ – Caloocan Deputy Prosecutor Darwin Cañete praised the country’s bet for clinching the Top 5 of Miss Universe 2021.
Netizens celebrated after Beatrice reached the top 5 of the highly anticipated pageant which can be considered a victory especially since 80 countries vied for the crown.
Among those who cheer for the success of Gomez is a lawyer named Darwin Cañete.
He even lauded Beatrice Gomez for not engaging in politics, unlike previous candidates.
“Was in a hearing. Only found out our candidate for this year’s Miss U got in the Top 5. Congratulations to our representative! Our nation is proud of you. Walang pinupulitika at hindi inaaway ang president natin.” he said.
“Unlike those two previous losing contestants whats-their-names-ah-who-cares-we-forgot-them-already,” he added.
Apparently, he did not name the candidates he’s referring to in his post.
It can be recalled that the last two candidates of the Philippines for Miss Universe are Gazini Ganados (2019) and Rabiya Mateo (2020).
Ganados made a buzz in 2019 after she spoke at the launch of the opposition group 1Sambayan and said that Filipinos are fed up with the current situation in the country.
“Aren’t you tired of the system that devastates more than the uplifting that it promised us?” she asked.
At the time, Ganados entered the Top 20 of Miss Universe.
Last year, Rabiya Mateo was criticized by some netizens for her comments about President Rodrigo Duterte.
“People would always say [na] mas mataas pa yungstandard ng mga Pilipino pagdating sa Miss Universe compared sa pag-elect ng leaders ng bansa natin. And that shouldn’t be the case, right? We need to have stricter qualifications before we vote somebody,” she said.
Rabiya did not make it into the top 20 which can be considered the Philippines’ lowest achievement in the Miss Universe in a decade.
Meanwhile, this year’s crown was won by Harnaaz Sandhu of India who bested 79 other candidates.
