COMELEC aimed to release the official list of 2022 election candidates on January.
COMELEC — The Commission on Elections aimed to release the official list of 2022 election candidates on January.
On Monday, COMELEC Spokesperson James Jimenez said in an online media briefing that the poll body aimEd to release the official list of 2022 election candidates on January 7.
According to Jimenez, the poll body expected to resolve cases on cancellation of certificates of candidacies (COCs) and on nuisance candidates before the target release of the final list.
“But for other cases, like a disqualification case for example where the issues are more complicated and will probably take longer to resolve, well, hindi sila matatanggal, but they (candidates) will be able to proceed because there will be nothing hindering their candidacy at that time,” Jimenez said.

The January 7 target date was later than the poll body’s earlier target to release the official list of 2022 election candidates by December this year.
Last Saturday, the poll body stressed that the initial list of political candidates for the 2022 election that the agency released on Christmas Eve would still be purged of the names of nuisance candidates.
The number of presidential aspirants significantly decreased after the poll body removed names of nuisance candidates.
From 97 presidential aspirants who filed their certificates of candidacies back in October, there were only 15 aspirants for the presidency as of December 23, 2021.
Meanwhile, the poll body earlier said that typhoon “Odette” will not hamper their preparations for the 2022 polls.
